Bromo Pre-Dawn

Taken June 3, 2009

Taken while the stars were still visible, just as the sun started to lighten the dawn sky and the spectacular volcanic peaks. The long exposure has blurred the steam rising out of Mt Bromo.

EXIF data: model Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, exposureTime 30.000 s (30/1), fnumber f/3.5, isoEquiv 400, focalLength 35.00 (35/1)

Wow! This is wonderful. When I see a photo like this I have so many questions. I imagine you must have hiked up some jungle covered peak the day before, spent a long night in a small canvas tent in a ferny, dripping cloud forest, arose a few hours before dawn, slashed your way through the jungle with a machete to this look off, carefully set up your tripod and camera and waited for the perfect moment…. Or, you just pulled over on the highway at a tourist viewpoint, snapped the shot and headed back to your hotel. I do hope it was the former!
